About Rickshaw Travel

Rickshaw Travel was established in Australia in 2009 as a is a one-of-a-kind online travel organisation with a unique, differentiated product concept. We offer travellers the ability to create their own customised trips to their chosen destination using our unique ‘travel modules’, and each country has a specialised website with many flexible travel options. We focus on booking small-scale, locally run accommodations as well as using local operators so that our product reflects the true identity of a destination. Our travel specialists offer valuable one-on-one service to our clients in creating their ideal travel plans.

When the company first began, we looked for a name which would work best for our country-specific websites (starting with Thailand online and Vietnam online).

However, we were also searching for an umbrella name that would carry the idea of exotic travel and adventure as well as a personal touch. We didn't want to appear corporate and shiny, as we actively wish to avoid glossy brochures (we prefer to work in a paperless and eco-friendly way), bland international hotels and faceless luxury travel. In other words, we tried to find a name suggestung a respect for local culture and nature, representing individual travel with the emphasis on flexibility and choice. This was, understandably, pretty tricky. 

Eventually, we decided upon Rickshaw Travel, after that simple, speedy mode of Asian transport, with its hardworking and charismatic drivers.

We have built, and continue to build, a very enthusiastic team, with solid knowledge and huge passion for their destinations. Every year, we send more and more travellers to our various countries, already spanning three different continents. We sell the type of travel which we ourselves enjoy - independent, affordable, and flexible. We aim to offer our customers a way to really discover the spirit of each country and its unique way of life.

Every country has its own specialised website offering a broad range of travel possibilities. Behind every destination website there are specialists who travelled extensively in the country, so their advice will be led by their own, very real, experiences. Our emphasis lies on personal travel experiences, so we use locally-owned small, authentic hotels and guesthouses in tune with the flavour of the country, as much as we possibly can. Above all, we avoid using big tourist coaches that separate you from your surroundings. Instead, we use local transport such as trains, private cars, flights or maybe sometimes a minibus.

Freedom is elementary to every journey, and we'll organise as much or as little as you like. This can be anything from an airport transfer and your first couple of nights, to an entire itinerary through a string of wonderful faraway countries. Either way, we wish you a wonderful travel experience.
