Distant view of a man walking a camel in the India Thar Desert

Day 1

Jaisalmer to Thar Desert

Today, you’ll take a jeep transfer to the desert to meet your local camel driver, who belongs to a camel drivers’ caste of many generations. You’ll ride for around two hours, passing through traditional nomadic villages and learn how local people live in this harsh environment. You’ll continue to plod through the baron desert, which will turn into rolling sand dunes, and reach your camp just before sunset. Your drivers will whip you up a tasty, simple meal and you’ll sleep in a tent under the twinkling starry sky.

Day 2

Thar Desert to Jaisalmer

The desert mornings at dawn can be very cold but within the hour the temperature will rise. At certain times of the year, the difference in a single day’s temperatures can be up to 50 degrees. You’ll ride for two hours to the outskirts of Jaisalmer, where you’ll say a fond farewell to your camel and his driver and be taken the rest of the way back to your hotel by Jeep.

Our travel specialist Matthew took a Camel Safari in Jaisalmer, read about his experience here.
